Writing Raw

Filed under: Online Writing Schemes, Useful links — hannah @ 5:55 pm

Received this email - thought I’d share:

WritingRaw.com is a FREE literary sharing website (like YouTube but for the literary world) where writers can upload, view and share their writing. The only restriction is that the material cannot be illegal in any sense of the word (such as child porn, plagiarism, etc.). Other than that, feel free to post in any of the following categories:

FICTION
POETRY
NONFICTION
REMEMBRANCE
and, ASSORTED writings

Our goal at Writing Raw is simple - to serve the literary community with the opportunity to have their work online and out in the world. Who knows who may see it! In this world of disappearing literary magazines, Writing Raw is providing the blank pages for writers to fill.

To view someone’s writing, just click on the link and a .pdf version of the piece will open in your browser. Read it, comment on it, vote for it to be a showcased piece! Most important - ENJOY IT.

There is no catch here – all writings will be posted. Let’s create a world where no one rejects a writer or the work of their future masterpiece.

NUMBER ONE!!!!

I have been hanging out on authonomy so much that I neglected my poor little blog.  So after a few nudges from my new *friends* I feel compelled to update. So the good news?Somehow I managed to make it to the top of the pile! The Voices of Angels (new draft) is currently number one on the authonomy website. Wow.Authonomy is the new Harper Collins website for writers looking to be published.  The online equivalent of the slush pile.  You need to upload a min of 10,000 words.  The site works great as an online writing circle, with lots of useful feedback from fellow writers.Anyway, after uploading the new version (and I still remember how nervous I felt) I’ve received a tonne of feedback, edited it a few times, and swung my way to the top!  Only 3 more weeks to go until the end of the month.  If I can hang on in there, then I’ve made it to the ed’s desk. Whilst making it to the ed’s desk is no guarantee of getting a deal (the most I can hope for right now is that they want to read the rest - better get writing), it does attract a certain amount of kudos. And it’s really boosted my confidence.  I made the number one spot last night and felt ecstatic. So if you want to read the current authonomy numero uno.  Click here! http://www.authonomy.com/ViewBook.aspx?bookid=831

Authonomy by Harper Collins

Hey, check out this site  - it’s still in beta format - but well worth trying to enter.  Basically an online concept from Harper Collins where authors (that’s me and you!) can showcase our manuscripts to other authors.  The idea being that a manuscript can receive constructive comments  and eventually the most popular manuscripts will be highlighted and thus make it easy for  HC to streamline its slushpile.

I’ve just uploaded my 1st 10,000 words for The Voices of Angels.  So if you’re just gagging to have a read (and comments most welcome) then try this link:

I will eventually upload the 10,000 words on this site too.

But in the meantime, do check out this site - I really like the look of it.

Write Here, Right Now

Wow,  long time, no write.  How very slack of me!!!  Am feeling utterly ashamed of my lack of commitment.  No excuses except a tangled love liaison, a relocation to a different part of Spain, a new business venture, and all that jazz.  But I’m back and I’m determined to at least record something once a week on this fab blog of mine.  Set up last year as a resource directory for budding writers, and for anyone who might be the teeeeeeniest bit interested in following the journey of very own novel as it meanders its way from source to publication.  Meander being the operative word….. This site and the adjoined webpage is about to undergo some serious transformation.  So watch this space….  But before that, here’s news of an online writing venture from BBC Scotland, intended to help crime writers keep a daily target of 1000 words a day for 30 days.  Sounds tough?  Well, it’s meant to be.  Take a look.http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/radioscotland/programmes/writehererightnow/

Online Slush Piles?

Filed under: Online Writing Schemes, Useful links, Publishers, Agents — hannah @ 10:03 am

This is a really great link to an article on The Bookseller which discusses online writing schemes such as youwriteon and a new upcoming one being launched by Harper Collins in Feb called authoronomy. These sites are opportunities for writers to upload segments of their novel and have it critiqued by others. The article - which you have to read - suggests that this is the new future, replacing the slush pile route. Check it out cos there’s tonnes of useful information here plus some great links at the end.
